Take safety precautions like wearing protective glasses and also put on a pair of ear muffs designed for ear protection. There is of course flying chips of wood that can injure your unprotected eyes. The newer models are quieter than the older models but you still need to wear ear protection.

If you only use your saw part of the year you will want to store it during the off season according to the instructions that comes with the machine. If you are buying and using the saw for the first time you should seek training before taking it out on your own.
